Orvieto and Civita di Bagnoreggio.

Driving through the low  mountains and fertile soil of Italy’s central region of Umbria, we suddenly reach Orvieto ,a 1000ft elevated hilltown  dominating a vines, olives , nut and fruit trees spotted large plain, it takes few  minutes from the valley , to reach the centre of  Medieval town  to admire the Duomo , one of the greatest Romanesque Gothic 13th century Churches in Italy. It is hard to imagine the incredible ornate façade took more than 100 year to complete. The majestic interior is housing such an important relic as the miracle of the host. The walls of Brizio Chapel frescoed by Luca Signorelli depicting the resurrection , Paradise, Hell and the end of the World .These painting had great influence over  Michelangelo when he  paint the Sistin Chapel.  
Than you can stroll down narrow  alleyways to discover the medieval section of Orvieto , to see  some tipical terracotta shops  or enjoy a gelato .

This hill town was built by Etruscans 6 century BC , on pinnacles like this to defend  and a good view of approaching enemies. This medieval  semi-desert town ( 17 inhabitants) offers you a stunning glimpse into the past. A Seattle travel man , Rick Steves , call it just another one of his great ideas. You can stop for a very relaxing lunch in the silent town , just before the palace housing the summer  course of Washington’s University architectural school .(9 Hours).
